100 Kites
Lubbock, Texas
2006

100 orange kites were launched in a 10x10 grid and left to fly for the span of an entire day. Staked to the ground, the kites flew for over 8 hours relying on the continuous West Texas wind and the vigilance of participants. This public installation engaged the localized climate and topography, transforming the spatial volume and horizon of the otherwise flat landscape. The event drew participation from friends and guests from the surrouding community, as well as the curiousity of onlookers from the busy State Highway 114.
